Orbit shop

Printers, labels and scanners
tested with Orbit.

Printers, labels, ribbons and scanners we have run against Orbit's label sizes and Scan page, on one invoice, delivered anywhere in South Africa and set up for Orbit. No card checkout: an order becomes a quote a person sends you within one working day.

Just starting

Your phone and an A4 sheet of 24 labels on the office printer. Costs nothing, and most businesses run like this for the first month. The Scan page reads the labels with the camera.

Printing every day

A Zebra ZD220t with polypropylene labels and a resin ribbon. Labels that survive a chemical drum, a wet floor and the sun, printed one at a time at goods-in. That is the labels starter kit.

Scanning all day

A wired scanner on a stand for the desk that receives and dispatches, a cordless one for the storeman walking the shelves, a rugged one for the yard and the forklift. All of them type into Orbit like a keyboard.

Setting it up

How the hardware talks to Orbit

There is no driver, no integration and no app to install. Written for the storeman, not the IT department.

A label printer is just a printer

Install the Zebra or Brother as a normal printer on the PC. On Orbit's Labels page you pick the size that matches the roll, press print, and the browser's print dialog sends it to the label printer at 100 percent scale. Put the printer on the network and every PC in the store can use it.

A scanner is a keyboard

Every scanner here works in keyboard mode: plug it in by USB or pair it by Bluetooth, and when it reads a code it types the code into whatever box is focused and presses Enter. On Orbit's Scan page that box is always there. Set the Enter suffix once from the scanner's manual and you are done.

A handheld runs Orbit in Chrome

An Android handheld like the Zebra TC21 is a rugged phone with a real scan button. Open Orbit in Chrome, go to Scan, and the built-in imager types the code when the button is pressed. The camera works too, so it reads Orbit labels either way.

Which label for which job

100 x 50 mm polypropylene with a resin ribbon for anything that gets wet, hot or handled a lot. 100 x 150 mm for drums, IBCs and pallets you want to scan from the forklift. A4 sheets of paper labels for dry indoor shelves, printed on the office printer.

Thermal transfer or direct thermal

Direct thermal (the Brother QL, till slips) prints with heat and fades with heat, sun and solvents. Thermal transfer (the Zebra ZD220t with a ribbon) melts ink onto the label and lasts for years. If the label will live outside an office, use thermal transfer.

Delivery, warranty, returns

R150 flat, nationwide, by courier. Free on kits. Everything carries the manufacturer's warranty. If a scanner does not read your labels, we sort it out: that is the point of buying it from the people who built the page it types into.

Questions

Before you order

Why buy the hardware from Orbit?

Because it arrives set up for Orbit, on one invoice from a company you already deal with, delivered, with someone to phone if the scanner does not read the label. We only list what we have run against Orbit's labels and Scan page.

How long does delivery take?

The quote carries a delivery date. Most items are a few working days from the quote being paid; the courier covers the whole country.

How do I pay?

By EFT against the quote. We order the moment it clears. There is no card checkout on this page on purpose: the prices move with the exchange rate and with stock, so a human confirms the number before you pay it.

Can I order something that is not listed?

Yes. Put it in the message on any order request, or ask us. If it works in keyboard mode or prints at one of Orbit's label sizes, it works with Orbit.

Do I need any of this to use Orbit Stock?

No. The phone camera reads Orbit labels and the office printer prints an A4 sheet of 24. See how Stock works. Buy a label printer when you print more than a few labels a day.

Prices incl VAT, checked 30 Oct 2026, confirmed on your quote. Orbit SA (Pty) Ltd is a reseller; brand names and product photos belong to their manufacturers.

Not sure which

Tell us what you move. We will tell you what to buy.

Drums or boxes, one store or six branches, a desk or a yard. Ten minutes on a call and you will know whether you need a printer at all.
